francisco's mission district. tara moriarty joins us now from the scene with a look at the damage and what firefighters are saying. >> reporter: fire investigators have not told us if this fire is suspicious. what strikes you as odd it started on the first nor then we skip a floor and then a fire broke out on the top floor. they received a report of a fire around 2:00 this morning. it started on the rear deck of the bottom floor unit and spread to the inside. so did flames jump to the top unit or was that a separate fire? we just don't know. >> the one unit was empty and the other unit the top unit the civilian came out on his own. we did conduct a search of the building and nobody else was in the building. >> reporter: luckily no injuries here and this was a one alarm. back here live you can see the charred wood here out on the street. no word on how much the damage will cost. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >>> solano county law enforcement worked through the night to dispose of home made explosives found

in oakland. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from oakland where there are still a lot of questions surrounding this protest and the police response. tara? >> reporter: well, a lot of people that we spoke to said they didn't see any police out here. we did put a call into the oakland police department. but we've not heard back yet. these anti-war protesters went on a rampage. this is the oakland tribune building where they smashed paint balls and they broke some windows and then as we sort of pan over here to the left. these are the offices for the berkeley lab and there is a surveillance camera perched up here where vandals struck and police will be taking a look at that video. now, this morning, crews power sprayed the paint off the tribune building but the other two windows on the be as easy to fix. we're told it will cost $6,000 to replace them. this began at 6:00 last night. about 200 people gathered at frank ogawa plaza in the evening. they timed this to the estart of the war in afghanistan. the demonstrators went on a march. and when they circled back to city hall, they struc

campbell. >>> they will spend the next two weekends making repairs there and tara moriarty is live to explain why that repair work needed to happen and why now. >> reporter: yeah, cal trans crews say they wanted to schedule it before the rainy season hit and also wanted to make sure no conflicting 49er games as that generates so much traffic. here is what is going to happen this weekend. cal trans is going to install a new siesmic joint and replace 60 feet of the bridge deck east of the high rice high rise and a cracked deem beam was discovered so they did temporary repairs then and doing a more permanent fix and this was the only time to squeeze it in. >> we have the raiders game and there was a lot of activities to go on and we didn't want to have it two weeks ago. >> the new repairs will cost 3 million dollars paid for by those funds. those are the detours, we would suggest those detours to get where you need to go. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> what started out as a routine traffic stop until the people inside a car opened fire on san francisco police officers. alex

hours ago in san francisco, shots were fired at an undercover police officer. tara moriarty is live to tell us what the suspects left behind that may help police capture them. >> reporter: one woman is in custody here at the mission police station. people are hoping and questioning here she will be able to tell them who the suspects are. the three left behind a car, a gun and a cell phone that they dropped on the sidewalk as they were trying to run away. right now, an under cover police car has two bullet holes in it. one striking very close to where the officer was sitting. luckily he wasn't hurt. about 1:00 to this morning the sergeant was heading near cesar chavez. he noticed a gray sedan that looked suspicious. the people inside of that car fired at him. >> we had a police inspector who was fired upon by suspects. his vehicle was hit at least a couple times here. we do have one suspect in custody from that vehicle. we're searches now to locate at least the other two suspects. >> reporter: the secretary did -- sergeant did not return fire. even though the officer wasn't hurt, i

of a shooting that happened in san francisco south of market neighborhood. tara moriarty is live now with information on the condition of the shooting victim and tara, you say there may be a connection to another exchange of gunfire in that area? >> reporter: that is right. that just happened only two days ago. so police are trying to put the puzzle pieces the pieces of the puzzle together right now. we're standing in front of police headquarters where we understand two witnesses to the shooting were brought in for questioning. we don't have all of the details about how exactly this shooting unfolded but what we do know is around quartzer to 2:00 this morning gunfire erupted in the area south of market street on sixth and stevenson. police believe there was a shootout between at least two people. we don't know how many casing were found on the ground but two different types of them were discovered at the scene. one matching bullet found in the victims body. the other matching the ones found in the victims pockets. now that victim was driven to san francisco general hospital by a frie

their frustrations on businesses and banks. tara moriarty is live with more. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of damage but no arrests. the protest you, the rampage they went on -- the protest, the rampage they went on lass -- lasted for about 30 minutes. but the damage still lingers. you can see the two huge holes in the window where somebody smashed a vodka bottle in them. last night, demonstrators started to throw paint balls. the group of about 200 people gathered at frank ogawa earlier in the morning to coincide with the 11th anniversary of the war in afghanistan. the group went on a march. two luxury cars that we know of were at least vandalized and their owners say that protesters are taking their frustrations out on the wrong people. >> i don't know why they are doing this. >> they have nothing better to do. >> it makes me very sad. >> reporter: later this morning, we're hoping to learn how much this will all cost to repair. no arrests have been made. but police have some leads. there could be surveillance video not reviewed yet. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news.

:07. we're tracking overnight news where a critically man was injured. tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: good morning. you know, police are trying to figure out if this shooting is connected to one that happened just days ago a half a block away. ballistics will be testing bullet casings. now, this morning we understand that two witnesses were brought here to police headquarters for questioning. ktvu sources tell us that around quarter to 2:00, gunfire erupted in the area south of market on 6th and stevenson. inspectors believe there was a shootout between at least two people. we don't know how many casings were found. now, the victim's friend drove him to san francisco general hospital in a blue ford escape. the scene was quite blooddy. the victim has undergone surgery. emergency crews discovered something interesting in the victims's pockets -- victim's pockets. that made the investigators make a closer roll at what roll was -- what role was played in the shooting. we don't have a motive for a shooting. but we've learned the suspect drove off in a tale ford explorer. if you have any i

in the west portal neighborhood. causing big problems for muni. ktvu tara moriarty joins us now with a look at what is happening and what commuters should know. tara. >> reporter: all the muni lines through the west portal area are not operating. that is the k, l, and the m. also on west portal avenue all of the businesses have been told to be shut down until 10:00 this morning. we just got word from police. and they say that none of those businesses will be allowed to open and serve people until 10:00 this morning. now this fire is still an active one. you can see behind me they are still trying to attack the flames from the ladder. this is obviously going to be quite a headache this morning for people that live in this area. for than 100 firefighters now on scene fighting the flames. this is a very stubborn fire. crews have been working it since 5:00 this morning when someone called to report it on. we're on west portal avenue. right in front of the west portal muni station. the chief says it's too early to tell if it started in the kitchen and was a flue fire. crews had to cut walls out

of those scenes. we do want to start with a restaurant fire. let's go to tara moriarty who joins us live with a look at the firefight still underway. tara? >> reporter: cau -- claudine, this is a really stubborn fire. crews have been battling this for two hours. you can see the roof collapsed. as a result, all muni lines through west portal are shut down, the k, l and m. that's going to cause a traffic nightmare this morning. more than 100 firefighters are on the scene fighting these flames. the call came in from a passerby at 5:00 a.m. we're in front of the west portal union station. it started at the gobble restaurant and spread to an orthodontist's office. we'll have to wait for arson investigators to figure out what happened. crews cut walls out to let the fire breathe so they could attack it from up above. >> it seems like it got out of control at one point. was it? >> accessing it was difficult. and then it extended to a greater alarm, a third alarm. >> reporter: this is actually the chief neighborhood for police and firefighters. they are all kind of shaking their heads because th

to sunday's game because they won't be able to take the bridge. tara moriarty is in hayward this morning with more on the work that is being done. tara. >> reporter: it will be shut down this weekend and next for a very big repair job and the detours start at 10:00 tonight. here is what cal tran crews will be doing. they will be removing and replacing the bridge decks. there is also a cracked beam. part of an expansion joint that crews need to replace. it was discovered during a routine inspection. cal trans did emergency repairs on the bridge then. fixing it permanently will cost about $3 million. that is being paid for by toll funds. the bridge which spans about seven miles from foster city to hayward and carries up to 92,000 cars each day is supposed to reopen at 5:00 monday. during the closure we recommend that drivers use the dumbarton bridge, 237 to bypass the bay entirely, or head north to the bay bridge. live in hayward i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >>> time now 5:06. we go from that to sal who has the latest on our commute so far. >> all right. that is right. we are loo

's big giants' victory parade. tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: that's right. good morning. we've seen some of the parade floats. we're gonna show them to new just a minute. we are -- these are the barricades going up apartment 9:30. we're here along market street. this is where the parade route is and there's already excitement building in the air. the last time around in 2010 an estimated million fans turned up to the ticker tape parade. they expect that same number this year. thousands may be skipping out on work and school to see history repeated. we met up with one fan who missed the parade last time. this year he's dressing up and will be here. >> this is my first time. i mean, i'm just in love. it's so exciting. i was there. so happy. yesterday, everybody was happy. everybody smiling. what's -- i hope every day will be like that. >> reporter: now, we did get a sneak peek at some of the parade floats and float builders have used up to a mile of orange and black sheeting. in the last parade, the giants' players rose in cable cars. but this year, they will be in convertible

are looking for two suspect who fired at an officer. tara moriarty is live with the latest on a manhunt to find the suspects. >> reporter: several inspectors were combing over a car that was parked in the middle of the streets here. it had two bullet holes on the side of it. one of them on the driver side. the reason it's such significance to officers, it's under cover police vehicle. here's what we're know, around 1:30 this morning the undercover sergeant was in plain clothes. he noticed that a car looks suspicious, he ran the license plate and all of a sudden people started firing at him. the car ended up several blocks away. the sergeant was able to detain one woman. officers say it's unknown why the suspects shot at the sergeant. >> he wasn't injured thankfully. >> how many shots they fired at the officer? >> we don't know specifically. i can see two rounds. >> reporter: the suspect's car was parked down the street here on bryant street. it was just towed away. around the corner here on 2rd is where -- 23rd is where the suspect dropped the gun. a woman has been taken to mission st
